A Modern Cottage In the Heart of Snowdonia
Tan Y Garth is our take on a modern Welsh cottage. Sleeping up to 10 people, it’s perfect for extended families or maybe two. Modern, light and warm, moments from the beach, Harlech Castle, and the rest of Snowdonia. Sit back and revel in the sea and mountain views.
The patio, perched on a slope, overlooks panoramic views of Mount Snowdon to the right, moving across the Llyn Peninsular, Cardigan Bay, The Irish Sea, Harlech beach, Llandanwg beach and Shell Island to your left. Watch whales, golfers, dolphins, paragliders, birds of prey, dog walkers and at least one robin pass by in the sky, sea and the shoreline below.

Your Stay
Being a holiday cottage surrounded by mountains and sea, the weather is what it is, and with that in mind we have tried to make Tan Y Garth, “Weatherproof”. By this we mean a space that is relaxing, restorative and enjoyable, regardless of what is happening outside. Light open spaces furnished with cosy textures and, of course, a wood burning stove. Each room is fitted with modern infra-red heaters that warm you rather than the air in much the same way the woodburning stove will.
Adding to its weatherproofness, the house is stocked with board games, that can be reliably described as good, rather than “classic” or “vintage”, books (a focussed collection, that hopefully aid your escape into the dramatic landscape), and there’s a large flatscreen T.V with Netflix & Disney+ along with a retro gaming console.
The kitchen, fitted in 2020, is fully kitted out with amongst others a very long peninsular (we call her Lynn), cook books, sharp knives and non-stick pans.
There are four bedrooms in total: two double bedrooms with kingsize beds (one with ensuite bathroom), one ‘family’ room (with a single bed and triple bunk), and one bunk room. Each bedroom has its own character and three of the rooms feature stunning sea views. As well as the ensuite (which can also be accessed from the hallway), there’s a sleek family bathroom featuring a Japanese deep soaking bath. All the beds are dressed in white linen and there’s a plentiful supply of cotton towels.
The house is available to rent for a minimum of 3 nights.
Up to two dogs are welcome with a £30 supplement per dog.

What a joy to wake up to spectacular views and to end the day with equally amazing sunsets. Very comfortable beds/ excellent kitchen and comfortable sitting area. Good showers and the children loved the Japanese bath. The castle and the dragons in the summer house provided hours of entertainment for the boys. Richard was a very attentive host. He provided helpful local information and responded by return when we had any queries. We felt “at home” immediately and throughout and are planning to return next Spring. Have already passed details to trusted friends.
Errr. Wow. This could have been a mud hut and we’d have still paid the money just for the view. But as it happens, it was this stunning home and we never wanted to leave. Could not have been a more perfect first holiday out of lockdown. And MEGA bonus points for such a well equipped kitchen! We will be back!
We had a fabulous time, I almost don’t want to write a good review so that I am able to get a booking. There’s no way you won’t return to Tan Y Garth. The location house and view are incredible and drinks on the terrace watching the sun go down and a bbq for dinner were real highlights. The kitchen was well equipped and we were able to make some fabulous meals with great meat from the local butcher. The house is well laid out for two families and child friendly. Our baby developed a lot over the week being able to walk around and explore. Fabulous!
We stayed at Tan y Garth for a week in April/May. We where very much in need of a break and chance to rest and restore. On arrival we where completely taken back by the breathtaking views, the property did not disappoint. The house was equipped with everything you need, the rooms are light and tastefully decorated. The main attraction is the sea views from the lounge/ kitchen and the two master bedrooms. Sunset became an event every night, the best we have ever experienced. We felt relaxed and rejuvenated the beds and bedding where of a very high quality and the quiet made sleeping very easy We went for some very picturesque walks locally, the little local village had a ver delicious ice cream shop, would defiantly recommend. We can’t wait to re-book and share with family covid permitting.
